Network and Internet Access Policy
Access to the campus networks and the Internet is intended to benefit the students, faculty, and staff of the college by facilitating research and education. Network access privileges may be revoked if abused.
Prohibited Uses and Actions
  * Use for purposes that violate Federal or State laws.
  * Use for a private enterprise or not-for-profit organization unless authorized by the college.
  * Use in any way that interferes with or disrupts other network users, services, or equipment.
  * Concealing or misrepresenting one's name or affiliation to mask irresponsible or offensive electronic communication.
  * Using electronic mail or other network communications to harass, offend, or annoy other users.
  * Sending chain letters through electronic mail.
Technology Accounts
Users should not consider the college's computer systems as "secure". The information contained in users' Technology Accounts (account names, e-mail messages and attachments, and files stored on college servers) is the property of the college, not personal property. The system administrator may access all information for the purpose of diagnosing and correcting system problems. User may not share their account names and passwords with others. Allowing another person to log on to one's own account by sharing the account name and password will result in revocation of the account.
Academic Computing Labs Usage Policy
Lab facilities and services are for academic use only. They are to be used in efficient, ethical, and legal manner. To this end, and consistent with the general principles governing our academic community, users are expected to:
  * Learn appropriate uses of software, keep archives and backup copies of important data, and take reasonable precautions against contracting and propagating computer viruses.
  * Refrain from bringing food or drinks into the labs, or if brought, to clean up after themselves.
  * Avoid printing unnecessary output or more than two copies of any file.
  * Comply with any operational rules and restrictions that may be posted in the labs.
Users Are Prohibited From
  - Occupying the labs or using lab facilities at any time other than during lab operating hours.
  - Installing, removing, or modifying the installation of any software or supporting files on lab computers*.
  - Moving, repairing, or modifying the equipment or network or attaching external devices to it*.

Students who are enrolled in graduate-level Computer Science classes may use designated labs during the school term on a 24-hour basis. Certain labs may have restricted hours due to undergraduate use or scheduled maintenances.
*Not applicable where these activities are a part of the curriculum or are directed by responsible faculty or staff subject to prior concurrence and approval of Academic Computing Services.

Visitors' Policy
Elmhurst residents, Elmhurst College alumni, and students and faculty of other accredited colleges and universities may use the Open Lab facilities of Daniels Hall subject to the following:
1. Visitors must obtain a Guest Pass in Room 107 and display it while working in the labs.
2. The two PCs along the blackboards at the front of the open labs are for visitor use. All other stations are reserved for currently enrolled Elmhurst College students faculty, and staff.
3. During busy periods, lab access privileges may be suspended, or time limits may be imposed on work sessions. Technical assistance may also be unavailable.
4. No one under the age of 18 may use the labs unless accompanied by a parent at all times.Individuals under the age of 18 are not allowed to use the computers or other equipment.
5. A fee of $.10 per page is charged for printed output. No more than two copies of a document may be printed.
6. No animals or pets are allowed in the computer labs.
7. No one may install, remove, or modify software on the lab computers. Except for headphones, no one may, attach, remove, repair, or modify computers, peripherals, or network equipment.
8. No one may use lab facilities to operate or support commercial or not-for-profit enterprises.
9. No one may use the network in any way that interferes with its operation or offends other network users, or for purposes that violate Federal or state laws (such as downloading and distributing MP3 files).
10. Users are asked to refrain from bring food and beverages into the labs, and in any case, to leave the equipment and workspace in clean condition when finished.
