At Elmhurst, the academic experience is enriched by opportunities to conduct high-level research, explore career goals, study abroad and much more. Here’s a sampling.
Designed for students who are motivated to work toward social justice, the Niebuhr Center provides academic and field experiences that help you to explore your values and find your true calling.
The Center for the Health Professions
The Center for the Health Professions offers academically oriented resources for students who intend to pursue careers in the health professions, including medicine, dentistry, speech-language pathology, exercise science, veterinary medicine and nursing.
Center for Professional Excellence
The CPE offers opportunities to shadow professionals at work, engage with a mentor in your field and gain valuable experience in some of today’s most rewarding careers. The Honors Program, a component of the CPE, is designed for our most intellectually ambitious students. It provides opportunities to work with faculty on research projects; meet in small groups with visiting scholars; attend opera, theatre and concert productions and more. Also under the CPE umbrella is Study Abroad, which enables you to have an adventure, master a new language or get a fresh look at your major. We offer international education opportunities on five continents, ranging from three-week service trips to year-long immersion experiences.
Faculty members at Elmhurst often invite students to work alongside them in their research. Studying everything from cancer cell metastasis and West Nile virus to the impact of war on the environment, students and faculty create new knowledge and solve problems.
ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps)
Elmhurst students have the opportunity to enroll in the Army ROTC at Wheaton College or the Air Force ROTC program at the Illinois Instititue of Technology. A student may earn an officer's commission upon graduation from Elmhurst College and completion of all prescribed segments of the ROTC program. For information, contact the Army or Air Force ROTC units, or Larry Carroll, executive director of the Center for Professional Excellence and the ROTC campus representative.
