Susanne Schmitz’s research interests include applied microeconomic theory, with particular applications to labor markets and the relative economic status of women and minorities. Dr. Schmitz has published a book, Race and Gender Discrimination across Urban Labor Markets, and has had articles published in the Journal of Human Resources, Southern Economic Journal, Economics Letters, Monthly Labor Review, International Journal of Manpower and other academic journals. In addition to introductory economics courses, she teaches Labor Economics and intermediate-level microeconomics. She earned her Ph.D. in economics from the University of Kentucky.

Joseph N. Heiney

Joseph Heiney’s research interests include the effects of consolidation in the U.S. banking industry and issues in public sector labor markets. His book, The Impact of Geographic Deregulation on the U.S. Banking Industry, co-authored with Dr. Ann B. Matasar, examines the effect of the Riegle-Neal Interstate Banking and Branching Efficiency Act of 1994. He has also published articles in the Journal of Business and Economics Research and International Advances in Economic Research. At Elmhurst, Dr. Heiney teaches Money and Banking, intermediate-level macroeconomics, and introductory courses in both macro- and microeconomics courses. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago.
