The early childhood education program prepares students to teach children from birth to grade 3.
Graduates of this program are teaching and leading in schools and day-care centers across the country. In fact, 100% of early childhood teacher candidates who graduated in May 2016 were employed within two months of graduation. An early childhood special education approval, as designated by the State of Illinois and Elmhurst College, is part of major requirements.
All early childhood education majors must complete a minor or second major in addition to the education requirements for the major. Courses being applied toward the minor must earn grades of C or higher. The early childhood program offers the option of completing the 18-semester hour English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement in lieu of a minor.
