We know that one of the reasons you’re going to college is to prepare for your first job—and for a whole lifetime of professional achievement. Elmhurst College will help you make informed choices that will lead you to a satisfying and meaningful future. You’ll meet leading professionals from a wide range of fields. You’ll choose from among hundreds of internships with top employers. And you’ll complete a program of study that’s both rigorously intellectual and deeply practical as you prepare to reach your full potential. Here’s how it works.
Elmhurst empowers you as an individual and prepares you to deal with three hallmarks of today’s world: diversity, complexity and change. We challenge and support you as you work to attain both a real understanding of the wider world and a measurable degree of mastery in a specific field of academic and professional interest. You’ll learn to write, think, analyze and solve problems at a whole new level, and you’ll apply your knowledge and skills in real-world settings. It’s a powerful combination.
Starting in your first year, our amazing cohort of professional mentors will invite you to draw on their wisdom and know-how. You’ll have a chance to shadow accomplished professionals as they engage clients and colleagues, and make tough decisions on the job. As you define your professional goals, our great internship program will allow you to learn first-hand what particular careers look like on the inside. Most Elmhurst internships offer course credit; all provide invaluable insight and experience.
Your Elmhurst experience starts with a direct question: “What will you stand for?” You’ll hear it first at Orientation and then expressed in different ways throughout your Elmhurst career. The question suggests a whole philosophy of education. We take you seriously. And we take college seriously. Our goal is to educate the entire student for life, work and success in a global society. We seek to graduate individuals who are ready to meet their obligations to their professions and society.
Our three centers are a unique part of an Elmhurst education. They’ll play a special part in helping you to succeed and grow—academically, professionally, socially and even spiritually. They’ll be your partners as you become the person you want to be. So check our Center for Professional Excellence, Patterson Center for the Health Professions, and Niebuhr Center for Faith and Action. They have a lot to offer you, including internships, professional mentoring, career education, service-learning, international experiences and much more.
Most of the benefits of an Elmhurst education—like the capacity to learn for a lifetime—are profound, lasting and intangible. But some of the rewards are tangible. For example, the moment you earn your Elmhurst degree, your options for jobs and for graduate and professional study increase exponentially. Your ability to prosper through economic uncertainty expands significantly. And your average earning potential grows dramatically.
