Admission & Application

Ready to advance your career? At Elmhurst College, we try to make the graduate application process as simple—and friendly—as possible. If you have any questions along the way, contact the School for Professional Studies.

To apply for admission to graduate study, submit the following to the School for Professional Studies*:

  • A completed application for admission to graduate study (apply online, download an application (pdf), or request an application by email).
  • A current résumé documenting your work history. Provide enough detail to document levels of responsibility, areas of professional growth, and prior professional training experiences.
  • Official transcripts from all graduate and undergraduate institutions you have attended.
  • Recommendations from three persons who can comment on the quality of your communication skills and on your ability to successfully complete graduate study.
  • A 1,000-word statement of purpose, describing the personal and professional goals that you intend to meet by completing a graduate program. (MBA and MBA Option students must respond differently as instructed on the application and described on the MBA and MBA Option program sheets).
  • GRE scores (only required for students applying to the Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology taken within the last five years).

For the following programs, please complete their program-specific applications:

International applicants must also submit:

  • An official course-by-course and credential evaluation, in English, by a foreign credentials evaluation agency of all university transcripts as well as original copies of the transcripts/degrees. For evaluation information, visit Educational Perspectives (www.edperspective.org), World Education Services (www.wes.org), or Educational Credentials Evaluators (wwww.ece.org).
  • Proof of English proficiency, as demonstrated by scoring a minimum of 550 (paper)/213 (computer)/79 (Internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 77 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB).

If offered admission to a graduate program, international students must submit a Declaration of Certification of Finances form and the tuition prepayment before the Form I-20 will be issued.

To apply for admission as a non-degree graduate student or for a graduate certificate program, submit the following:

  • A completed application for admission to graduate study (apply online, download an application (pdf), or request an application by email).
  • A current résumé documenting your work history. Provide enough detail to document levels of responsibility, areas of professional growth, and prior professional training experiences.
  • Verification that you have earned a bachelor’s degree. Please submit an official copy of your final transcript verifying the completion of your bachelor’s degree.
  • A copy of your Illinois professional educator license (only required for students seeking to earn a licensure endorsement or approval)

Permission to take courses as a non-degree graduate student must be granted by the program director.

Admission Requirements
Each graduate program has specific requirements that must be completed prior to admission. Refer to the program webpage for specific admission requirements for your program of choice.

Conditional Admission
In two circumstances, a student may be considered for conditional admission to graduate study.

  • A currently enrolled student may be conditionally admitted to graduate study to enable the student to prepare academically for graduate work as part of the student's undergraduate program, with the assurance of being eligible for admission to graduate study.
  • An applicant in need of program-specific prerequisites may be conditionally admitted to take these required courses at Elmhurst College with the assurance of being eligible for admission to graduate study.

Provisional Admission
A student may be considered for provisional admission if he or she can document admissibility to a program but is unable to present all required documentation for admission in a timely way.

Admission Calendar
For priority admission consideration, graduate applicants should follow the preferred application deadlines schedule outlined below. Applications will continue to be accepted after the preferred deadline if there is still space in the program to which the student is applying.

  • Fall Term: August 1
  • Spring Term: December 11
  • Summer Term: April 1
