You'll develop the skills to help your students understand the building blocks of health and wellness, and you'll prepare to take the Health Content Area Exam, which leads to a health education endorsement.

As a student in this program, you will:

  • Learn the fundamental principles and concepts of curriculum development to comprehensive school health education.
  • Learn how to apply the basic concepts of nutrition.
  • Learn how to apply the basic concepts of wellness/health, fitness/sport and lifestyle management.
  • Develop a broader view of sexual health education.
  • Gain expert knowledge about health care available to individuals and communities.
  • Develop a broader view of societal influences on and implications of drug use, abuse and treatment.
  • Develop a greater understanding of the politics affecting public health policy and how to plan appropriate community health programs.

The graduate certificate program in health education also meets the practical needs of teachers. This part-time program is offered in a hybrid format, combining on-campus and online learning, and can be completed in less than two years.
