Admission Requirements

Elmhurst University welcomes transfer students to apply for admission for both spring and fall terms each year. Want to learn more? Here are all the details.

The Admission Process

  • To be eligible for transfer admission to Elmhurst, you must be in good academic standing at your current institution.
  • Elmhurst gives preference to students with cumulative grade-point averages of 2.50 and above. Serious consideration is also given to applicants with grade-point averages between 2.00 and 2.49. These averages are based on a 4.00 grade scale.
  • The major programs of Nursing, Education and Communication Sciences and Disorders require elevated GPA requirements and/or separate application processes.
  • If you have fewer than 30 hours of transferable college credit at the time of application, please note that your high school records will also be considered in the admission decision.

The Review Process

  • We assess your applications based on academic merit and application materials, taking into consideration your grade trends and hours completed each term of your college-level study.
  • We observe your academic performance within the context of the major for which you apply. This means we look to see strong grades and continued coursework in the subjects of your selected major.
  • Your application is considered complete and will be reviewed when required materials are received whether or not we have received optional materials.

The Decision

  • Admission decisions are sent out both electronically and via postal mail. Students who are not admissible to Elmhurst will be notified electronically and encouraged to work with us on a transfer plan.
  • Some major programs require additional materials such as auditions or portfolios for admission consideration and/or scholarship eligibility.

Elmhurst University, in accordance with our core values, identity, and affiliation with the United Church of Christ, respects the rights of students to peacefully protest. Participation in such activities will not have a negative impact on admission and/or enrollment.

The transfer process for me was very easy. Most of my credits and classes were transferable, which helped me complete my prerequisites and allowed me to focus on my nursing courses.
