Student Artists to Showcase Work in Fall Capstone Exhibition

Elmhurst College art majors graduating in February will exhibit their final projects during the College's Fall Capstone Exhibition, which begins on Saturday, December 7.

The Capstone Exhibition is a high point for every graduating art major. Each student works for the entire term to create a body of work in his or her area of concentration. Then the students plan the exhibition and design a postcard and poster.

Six students will present their work during this year's fall show. Projects represent a variety of media, including drawing, graphic design, photography and sculpture.

  • Suzanne Kessell (Mt. Prospect, Illinois) applied her concentration in graphic design to creating promotional items for a fictional festival called Future Sonic. She designed posters, flyers, a pamphlet, T-shirts and a wristband for the festival.
  • Stephanie Chaddick (Wood Dale, Illinois), whose concentration is in drawing, created a series of graphite and charcoal drawings of the hand in a variety of positions that depict intense emotional states.
  • Danielle Swayze (Itasca, Illinois) applied her concentration in photography to a series of digital photographs that explore people and their hobbies.
  • Hailey Williams (LaSalle, Illinois), whose concentration is in photography, will feature an installation of photographs that express brokenness by depicting abandoned spaces within the home environment.
  • JP Provenza (Mt. Prospect, Illinois), whose concentration is in sculpture, created objects that express his concern for the environment and the planet Earth.
  • Kevin P. Gac (Northfield, Illinois), whose concentration is in drawing, will exhibit four mannequins embellished with a labyrinth of intertwined patterns.

The Fall Capstone Art Exhibition will run from December 7 through December 14 in the Barbara A. Kieft Accelerator ArtSpace, in the 200 block of West Park Avenue in Elmhurst. A public reception will be held on December 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Accelerator ArtSpace is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Both the exhibition and the reception are free, and the public is welcome.
