Tonia Khouri Offers Ideas for Fixing Illinois

Tonia Khouri was born and raised in DuPage County. She spent most of her adult life working in the private sector as a business owner, until her election in November of 2012 to the DuPage County Board.

On January 21, Khouri presented "DuPage County—The Model of Good Government for Illinois," as part of Elmhurst College’s Fixing Illinois lecture series.

On the County Board, Khouri is chairwoman of the Economic Development Committee and the Ad Hoc Mass Transit Committee. She also serves on the Finance Committee, the Judicial and Public Safety, the Health and Human Services, the Environmental Committee and the Legislative Committee.

As chairwoman of the mass transit committee, Khouri is leading an effort for DuPage County to receive fair representation on the service boards and fair allocation of funding, after the county called for a review of the Regional Transportation Authority’s (RTA) allocation of discretionary funds across public transit service boards (Metra/PACE/CTA).

Last June, Elmhurst College launched Fixing Illinois: A Great State’s Problems and Promise with the goal of starting an ongoing discussion about the challenges that Illinois faces, and empowering citizens to help address those challenges and move the state forward. Previous Fixing Illinois speakers include gubernatorial candidates Bruce Rauner and Illinois state senators Kirk Dillard and Bill Brady, as well as Illinois State Representatives Dennis Reboletti and Jeanne Ives, and Illinois State Senator Kwame Raoul.
