Notorious Chicago

Gary Krist & Jeffrey Gusfield

Thursday, April 24, 2014
Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel
7:00 PM

Gary Krist is the author of City of Scoundrels: The 12 Days of Disaster that Gave Birth to Modern Chicago (2012), the story of 12 volatile days in Chicago in 1919, when an aviation disaster, a race riot, a crippling transit strike and a sensational child murder transfixed and roiled a city already on the brink of collapse.

For several decades, Jeffrey Gusfield has been one of Chicago’s more dedicated Capone-era researchers. Deadly Valentines, about Al Capone’s chief assassin, “Machine Gun” Jack McGurn and his wife, “The Blonde Alibi” Louise Rolfe, is Gusfield’s first book.

This “Elmhurst Reads” event is co-sponsored by the Elmhurst Public Library, Friends of the Elmhurst Public Library and Elmhurst College.
