Extensive renovations to the Mill Theatre make it easier for students to put on good shows and for audiences to enjoy them.
The Elmhurst College theatre program encompasses a broad community of artists, developing the talents of students from a wide array of disciplines. Majors and minors in theatre, musical theatre and theatre education complement their core studies in theatre with active work in our production season.
Regardless of major, all student performers and technicians are engaged in active learning as they take on acting, technical and design challenges, as well as leadership roles within the production season. Students also have opportunities for individualized instruction with theatre professionals through our distinctive applied theatre program.
Productions take place in the College’s Mill Theatre complex, which houses a full scene shop, costume shop, state-of-the-art light board, sound board and equipment, a full inventory of lighting equipment, and ample storage for costumes, furniture and properties.
Theatre majors and non-majors gain experience in design, construction, performance and management. Each year, Elmhurst College actors, designers and technicians compete in the American College Theatre Festival and have the opportunity to participate in our London theatre course during January Term. In addition, guest theatre artists regularly visit the campus to share their insights.
Through coursework and production work, the Elmhurst College theatre program is committed to:
