Minor in Language Arts Education

For students admitted to a teacher education program

Completion of this minor requires a minimum of 24 semester hours of coursework. No more than two courses (8 semester hours) from a major or another minor may be used to satisfy the minor requirements. No more than two courses will be accepted in transfer. Only students who are formally admitted to a teacher education program may earn this minor. Students are required to complete all courses with grades of C or higher and have a minor GPA of 2.750 or higher.

This minor will lead to a Language Arts endorsement at the middle school level if a student has earned middle school approval,* but it will not lead to a 9-12 English Language Arts endorsement.

*The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) requires that all candidates enrolled in the present Middle-Level Approval program complete the coursework on or before September 1, 2017 under current State-approved requirements, and have their Professional Education License (PEL) endorsement issued by September 1, 2018.
