Using Illinet Online (the library catalog)

Illinet Online is the library's book catalog. One of the quickest ways to search is to browse by subject. Enter a subject term (such as "interpersonal communication") in the search box, and in the "Search by" box, choose "Browse subject."

If you can't find books writtten specifically about your subject, you can always try an "Any Word Anywhere" search. Use quotation marks to restrict your search to a specific phrase.

If you can't find what you're looking for at our library, click here to see how you can search other local libraries and order books.

Note: If you find books that you need to interlibrary loan, order them as soon as possible! They 7-10 days to arrive.

Basic Research Using Library Databases

Use WebFeat to search several databases at the same time.

From the Library home page, click on "Do Online Research" button and then select "Search for articles in multiple databases simultaneously using WebFeat." At the search screen, enter your keywords, then pich what databases you'd like to search. You can either:

1) Check the checkbox by the subject area you wish to search (Education, Psychology, Nursing, et. cetera).

2) Pick from an alphabetical list of individual databases (be sure to read the database descriptions), then click "Go."

  • CINAHL contains the full text of the American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology (1998-present) and Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools (1997-present). So you found an article, but it's not full-text. Now what?

Don't fret. Look for this button or this one next to the article citation on the search screen (this button isn't available in the Lexis-Nexis database). Clicking on this button will take you to a list of full-text sources, if available. If we don't carry the full-text article in another database, you'll have the option to check the catalog to see if we carry the journal in print, or order the article via Interlibrary Loan.
