Phyllis Reynolds Naylor was born on January 1, 1933
in Anderson, Indiana. Her passion for literature possed her at a very
young age. Phyllis wrote her first book at age five and sold it at age
16 for $ 4.67. After college Phyllis married and moved to Chicago. She
worked as a teacher and editorial assistant. When her marriage came to an
end she went back to college and got a degree in psychology. She later married
Rex Naylor, a speech pathologist. They live in Bethesda, Maryland along
with their two grown sons. Naylor is now writing her 100th book. Her
inspiration comes from her own experiences. Just like the Newbery Award winner
Shiloh. Phyllis actually found a real beagle in West Virginia.
