ROALD DAHL

Most famously known for...
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

About the Author:
Roald Dahl first became interested in writing children's books when he was making up bedtime stories for his daughters.  That is how James and the Giant Peach came into being. Today, he is one of the world's favorite children authors.  He was born in  Llandoff, Wales on September 13, 1916.  His father and older sister died when he was three. Roald based the character of the grandmother in The Witches off of his mother as a tribute to her.

He had a string of best selling novels which included The BFG, Danny the Champion of the World, The Twits, Boy, and Going Solo. His work has been translated into 34 languagaes.  However, he only won a handful of awards, mostly in the UK.

Roald Dahl was diagnosed with a rare blood disease.  He died on November 23, 1990 at the age of 74.  He was working till the end on My Year and The Roald Dahl Cookbook.
