Teacher at Chalk Board

As a student at Elmhurst College, my teaching philosophy is being developed the more I learn.  When I attend education classes or when I am in an elementary school classroom, I am constantly learning new things about teaching and the kind of teacher that I want to be.  I believe that every student is special and brings their own attributes into the classroom.  I know that every child has thier own learning styles and intelligences that I will address in my classroom.  My classroom will be a community of learners in which everyone works together, learns from one another, and is comfortable but challenged at the same time.  Teachers have the power of influence over their students.  Children are the future and that should not be looked upon half heartedly.  As a teacher, I will value each student for who they are and treat them with respect.  I will model appropriate behaviors for my students to follow.  As a teacher, I plan to: value and respect each student, conduct my classroom as a community of learners, provide my students with choices, be an advocate for my students and their needs, collaborate with collegues, remain professional at all times, be a role model for my students to look up to, and be a life long learner.  My ultimate goal as a teacher is to help children learn through meaningful, real life experiences.  As an educator, I plan to achieve my goal by being a teacher, not an assignment giver.
