“A hundred years from now...it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove… But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.” Anonymous

Being important in the life of a child. This statement pretty much sums up why I want to be a teacher. Ever since I was a little girl, playing schoolhouse with my friends, I knew wanted to be a teacher. When I was little I wanted to be a teacher because I thought it would be fun. As I grew older, I learned that teaching was not just about having fun but it also about helping someone and having an impact on his or her life. I learned this from one of my teachers in elementary school.
As a student I really struggled. I was often lost and did not understand what the teacher was talking about. I studied so hard but I often found that I would still get bad grades. Frequently I would feel frustrated with myself. I thought that I was just too dumb to learn anything. My grades never seemed to show the effort that I was putting into my work.  I managed to coast along, getting mediocre grades, until a teacher came along who changed my life forever. This teacher saw how hard I was working and how frustrated I would become. She took time to sit down with me to figure out what was wrong. It was a long struggle but I eventually began to get better grades. No matter how discouraged I was she never let me give up. She was always there for me supporting me and helping me every step of the way. From that year on I started to get grades that actually showed me how hard I was working. Ever since I had that teacher I knew I wanted to be able to have an impact on someone's life as greatly as she had impacted mine.
I feel as a teacher I can bring my past knowledge of how school was for me to help my students. A lot of people just assume learning comes easily for everyone and if a person gets bad grades it is all because they are not trying. But I know from experience that is not true at all. As a teacher, I will take time out to help my students. I will not just assume they are lazy or just not smart enough. I will try my hardest to help all of my students and touch their lives in the same way my teacher touched mine.
I will also bring an enthusiastic attitude to the profession. I feel it is important for a teacher to be passionate about his or her job. If they are not excited about teaching then how are their students supposed to get excited about learning. When I went to school I cried if I had to miss a day. I want my students to be so excited about going to school that they will feel the same way if they have to miss a day.
