                       Robert Munsch

You will surely meet a Robert Munsch when you are a teacher.  He will be the student that is never the shining star in the classroom.  He barely passes from grade to grade.  He doesn't have many friends.  But he does write poetry.  He won't think it is that important.  But some one will recognize his gift, and he will shine.  Hopefully, it will be you.

As Robert Munsch states in his bio, that he started out as a underachieving student, and ended up becoming a teacher. After high school, he wasn't sure of what he wanted to do with his life.  Then he discovered that he loved working with children.  He got his teaching degree, and worked with preschool children.
He was a prolific storyteller. Although he didn't recognize his storytelling as a real gift, a co-worker did.
With encouragement from his boss, (and time off to focus on writing)  he became a published writer of children's stories. He has published over 50 stories.
The first story he published is "Mud Puddle", a whimsical story of puddles that live in trees..  His best-selling story is "Love You Forever", a story of the "enduring nature" of parental love.  One of my favorite stories is "The Paper Bag Princess".  It is an alternative to the typical princess in distress stories.  The Paper Bag Princess is the heroine; she uses intelligence and perseverance to outwit a dragon, and save the prince.  In the end, she may not get what she thought she wanted, but she does live happily ever after.
