Christopher Paul Curtis
Newbery Award Winning Author
Christopher Paul Curtis was born in Flint, Michigan.
He attended the
University of Michigan, and actually worked in a factory before he
became a
full time writer. Mr. Curtis currently lives with his wife
and two children in
Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
Curtis is the author of two award winning books.
The Watsons Go to
Birgmingham--1963, his first book, was published in 1995.
The book was a Newbery
Honor book and won the Coretta Scott King Award. His second book,
Bud, Not
Buddy won the Newberry Medal of Honor and the Coretta Scott
King Award.
Mr. Curtis' family has always played a very important role in his life. Two
of the characters in Bud, Not Buddy are based on his grandfathers
Herman E.
Curtis, and Earl "Lefty" Lewis. His wife Kaysandra, encouraged
him to take a
year off of work to pursue his passion for writing. Luckily,
he took her advise
and produced two very enjoyable, well written books.
Bud, Not Buddy is a wonderful book. Curtis draws
the reader into the life of the
main character, Bud. I highly recommend this book.
