Statement of Teaching
I believe that teaching is one of the most important and difficult professions to enter into, but also the most rewarding. I have chosen teaching as my career for many reasons. One of my main reasons for becoming a teacher is that I love interacting and working with people, especially children. I always have loved learning and as a teacher I hope that I will be able to instill this love in my students. Working in the educational field will continually bring me new learning and new challenges and I look forward to discovering and sharing these ideas with my students.
My philosophy of teaching includes the belief that every student can succeed in school given the opportunity. In order to make success a reality in my classroom, I will include every student by differentiating instruction and offering appropriate support until every student feels confident to do the task independently. My beliefs about teaching also include that, as a teacher, I should provide meaningful learning experiences for my students based on their needs and guide them through their learning as they discover things on their own. In my classroom, I believe that cooperative group work and discovery learning are both very important since social skills are necessary for children to have throughout their lives.
There are many qualities that I bring to the teaching profession. First, I have logged over one hundred hours of field experiences in a wide variety of different districts, schools, and grade levels. These experiences have given me numerous hands-on opportunities in working with individual students, leading small groups, and teaching lessons in a whole class setting. Another quality that I bring to teaching is my ability in working with diverse student and community populations. Not only have I had experience in multicultural schools, but I also am comfortable communicating in Spanish. I bring to the teaching profession my ability to work well with other people. I have always enjoyed working as a group or part of a team, as is seen by my active role as co-president on the executive board of Kappa Delta Pi.
In conclusion, I feel well prepared and very enthusiastic to be entering into the teaching profession. I will bring creativity, confidence, and a love of learning to my classroom.
