Craighead George
On the Far Side of the Mountain
Jean Craighead George was born
into a family who loved nature. She often spent weekends camping in
the woods of Washington, D.C. George began writing in the third grade,
and still continues to write. She has written and published over 100
books.
Jean Craighead George has written many books, among them Julie of the
Wolves, which was awarded the Newberry Medal in 1973. My Side
of the Mountain, which this book succeeds, was a Newberry Honor Book,
an ALA Notable Book, a Hans Christian Anderson Award Honor Book, and was
made in a major motion picture. (On the Far Side of the Mountain,
George, 1990.)
