"The
idea that we could have a child who escapes from the confines of the adult
world and goes
somewhere where he has power, both literally and metaphorically, really
appealed to me." - J.K. Rowling
Joanne Kathleen Rowling was born on July 31, 1965. Many
of Rowling's favorite childhood memories are centered around reading and
writing. As a child, some of her favorite books included The Wind
in the Willows and The Little White Horse.
Rowling's first book, Rabbit,
was written by the time she was six years old. Her idea for a book
about a boy wizard "fell" into her head, while riding on a train from Manchester
to London. It took her five years to complete the first book in the
"Harry Potter" series. The magical world that Rowling created sparked
the interest of readers around the world, and her books continue to make
publishing history. There will be seven books in the "Harry
Potter" series. The first four books include Harry Potter and
the Sorcerer's Stone (1997),Harry Potter and the Chamber
of Secrets (1998), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
(1999), and HarryPotter and Goblet of Fire (2000).
The next three books will follow Harry and his friends on their journeys
as they fight evil with goodness and courage.
