In order for one to become an outstanding teacher, it is critical that one have a love for the students. One must be committed to helping each individual student excel in all areas of studies. A teacher must also have a passion for the subject matter being taught and a willingness to share that passion with their students. It is also vital to continue to grow and learn throughout one’s career.
Open-mindedness is another outstanding quality for a teacher to have. A teacher must be willing to try new ideas that are suggested by students, parents, other teacher and colleagues. Teachers must learn to be creative and try to discover each student’s individual learning style. Not everyone learns in the same way. It is important help each individual learn in the manner that best suits the student.
A good teacher is both responsible and dependable. One who creates a trust between students, parents, and oneself and can often help in times of needs. A good professional must also know that no one is perfect and everyone will make mistakes, but must be willing to learn from them.
Communication is another very important quality of an outstanding teacher. A teacher must be able to communicate with others on many different levels. Good communication with students and making sure to give directions clearly and distinctly are important qualities. One must also be able to communicate with parents and colleagues on and entirely different level.
These are just a few of the qualities I feel are important in becoming an outstanding teacher. As one develops, many more important qualities emerge. I believe that it is very important to know what qualities a good teacher should have and constantly work to develop them throughout one’s teaching career. Teaching, like any other profession, is a learning process and it is very important to keep this in mind throughout my career.
