Laurie grew up in LaGrange Illinois with a family actively involved in teh theatre. when Laurie was young she would use her highly active imagination to creat stories about the people around her to get away from the hustle and bustle of her large family. When LAurie was in third-grade she decided to become a writer. When she got to high school she eagerly joined the school newspaper adn eventually continued her career at journalism school at Northwestern University. After Laurie graduated she spent many years working as a freelance writer before she realized her calling as a childrens and young adult author. She now devotes herself to writing nonfiction adn fiction for those age groups. As well as writing Laurie teaches a number of workshops,Laurie is also
a part-time faculty member of Chicago's Columbia College, where she teaches writing to undergraduates and graduates students, and facilitates teacher workshops.
Laurie has published more than thirty books so far and more are expected! She currently resides in Evanston Illinois with her husband, and she has two children in College.
