diamond The Wonderful World of Lois Lowrydiamond

Lois Lowry is one the most respected authors of her time.  She was born on March 20th, 1937, in Hawaii. She was the middle of three children born to Robert and Katharine Hammersberg .  Her father was an army dentist, so therefore the family moved around quite a bit.  From Hawaii, the Lowry's family moved to New York, and then to Pennsylvania during World War Two.  When she was eleven years old, Lois Lowry moved yet again.  This time it was to Tokyo.  She went to junior high there, before returning to the United States.
Lois Lowry attended Brown University for two years, but at the age of nineteen she married Donald Lowry, a naval officer.  Together they had four children, and settled in Maine.  Lois Lowry began school again at the University of Southern Maine.  After graduate school, Lowry began her writing career.
In 1977, Lois Lowry divorced her husband, and began a new life.  Now she lives in West Cambridge, where she continues to write.
