Sarah, Plain and Tall
By: Patricia MacLachlan
Background on Patricia MacLachlan:
Patricia MacLachlan was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Mrs. MacLachlan is a graduate of the University of Connecticut. At
school she met her husband, Robert a psychologist, and they later had three
children. Patricia did not write her first book until she was 35 years
old. She has said that she knew she always wanted to write children's
books. Mrs. MacLachlan said, "Also, I read books all the time, so that
I was a child who was destined to become a writer through becoming a reader."
Patricia encourages children who want to become a writer
to read lots of different types of books. She also encourages them
to practice writing everyday, "I know that when I began to be a writer, I
wrote every day because it's like exercising a muscle. The more you
do it, the stronger you can get at it." In addition to being a writer,
Patricia is also a lecturer and teaches a course in children's literature
at Smith College. Other books by Patricia MacLachlan include: The
Sick Day (1979), Through Grandpa's Eyes (1980), Moon Stars,
Frogs, and Friends (1980), Tomorrow's Wizard (1982), Unclaimed
Treasures (1984), Baby (1993), Skylark (1994) and many
others.
