Articles in Magazines, Newspapers, and Journals

The study of film and television, and popular culture in general, can be viewed from an interdisciplinary standpoint. This means that a lot of different databases may yield the information you're looking. Some databases that may include useful articles include:

Look at the Finding and Using Articles section of Information Literacy for English 106 for information on the differences between scholary and popular periodicals, and links to more general databases. You can also find suggestions for material listed in the bibliographies at the end of book chapters or articles on your topic.

Once you've identified your articles, use Illinet Online to determine if the library owns the journal in print or in microfilm. Some of the journals we have in electronic format are:

While it is possible to do subject searches directly within the context of a particular journal (for example, doing an advanced search in Periodical Abstracts for the keyword "horror" and the source "Journal of American Culture"), it is sometimes better to not restrict yourself to any one journal or magazine. This is when searching an article database would come in handy.

If you cannot find an article at Elmhurst, you can request it through our online Interlibrary Loan article request form.
