Finding Books

• Use Illinet Online to find books held in the Elmhurst College library as well as books owned by 65 other Illinois academic libraries.

• On the search screen, you can browse by subject. Pick "Browse Subject" from the scroll down list, and enter a subject heading.

Finding Scholarly Articles

• Periodical Abstracts includes the full text of the following journals:

English Journal (1992-present)

Journal of Business and Technical Communication (1996-present)

Written Communication (1996-present)

College English (1994-present)

• ProQuest Education Complete includes the full text of College Composition and Communication (1997-present) and Journal of Business Communication (1988-present).

Indexing databases (mostly citations, some full text)

These databases include indexing for many journals in rhetoric and composition, including the Journal of Composition Theory (formerly the Journal of Advanced Composition) and Rhetoric Review (the library does not own these particular journals, but you can request articles from them and other journals through interlibrary loan).

• ERIC ~the Educational Resource Information Center contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 980 educational and education-related journals

• MLA International Bibliography ~International index to literature, languages, linguistics, and folklore

Finding Electronic and Print Journals

• Alphabetical List of Journals and Magazines Available Online ~Search for your title in the alphabetical links, and then click on the link to go to the applicable database.

• Search Illinet Online for the Journal Title You need. ~In the "Search by" list, choose "Start of Magazine/ Journal Title" and enter you title, such as Language and Learning Across the Disciplines," to see if we have it in print (we do! 1998-2003). Be sure to check to see if we carry the specific year you need!

• Interlibrary Loan Form for articles to request articles not owned by the library in print or electronic form. Articles will be sent to the library, usually within 7-10 days, for you to pick up.

Web Resources

• National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) ~Very informative site concerning aspects of pedagogy, but some areas require paid subscription for access

• Rhetoric and Composition ~A excellent directory of internet resources on rhetoric

• The Writing Instructor ~Another excellent directory of "Rhetoric and Composition Journals on the Web." Contains articles from J.A.C.: A Journal of Composition Theory (Formerly Journal of Advanced Composition)

• WAC Clearinghouse ~ "Supporting Scholarly Exchange About Communication Across the Curriculum." Includes the full texts of the following journals: Language and Learning Across the Disciplines, Academic Writing, RhetNet: A Diologic Publishing (Ad)venture, and the WAC Journal.

• Crash course in copyright ~This Boston University website is a good introduction to the basics of copyright

• A directory of images and backgrounds ~this is a Elmhurst Library compilation of graphics and backgrounds that are free to use in presentations of all sorts

• Writing and Citing Resources (Elmhurst College) ~Elmhurst Library-compiled directory of helpful citation resources

• Advanced PowerPoint ~A downloadable file about some advanced PowerPoint features
