Using Illinet Online (the library catalog)

Illinet Online is the library's book catalog.One of the quickest ways to search is to browse by subject. Enter a subject term (such as "interpersonal communication") in the search box, and in the "Search by" box, choose "Browse subject."

If you can't find books writtten specifically about your subject, you can always try an "Any Word Anywhere" search. Use quotation marks to restrict your search to a specific phrase.

Note: If you find books that you need to interlibrary loan, order them as soon as possible! They 7-10 days to arrive.

Federated Search Engine

  • Use Webfeat to search several databases at once~ This link accesses our Webfeat federated search engine. This tool allows you to perform keyword searches in groupings of databases (such as Education) or our entire database all at once.

Education Databases

Newspaper Databases

  • Lexis- Nexis ~A wide range of contemporary news, business, legal, and reference information. You can limit your search to select geographical areas, i.e. North America, the Midwest, or Illinois. Full text.

  • Proquest Newspapers ~ This collection allows you to search The Chicago Tribune, The Wall Street Journal, and the The New York Times simultaneously. Full text.

General Databases

  • Academic Search Premier~ Selected full text of magazine and journal articles. Covers a wide range of subject areas.

  • CQ Researcher~ Covers current and controversial issues. Provides summaries, analysis, and bibliographies

    So you found an article in one of our databases, but it's not full-text. Now what?

    Don't fret. Look for these buttons: , or , or this line of text: (Find this resource with SFX) next to the article citation on the search screen. Clicking on this will take you to a list of our full-text sources that carry the journal, if we have it.
