Article databases

 

Databases with rhetorical periodicals

  • MLA Bibliography~ Huge international index to literature, languages, linguistics, and folklore. Some full text, but mostly citations. This is an excellent place to start your search, as many journals in other full-text databases are indexed here.

  • JSTOR~ database that contains more than 100 journals in 15 different disciplines, including Rhetoric Review, College Composition and Communication (CCC), and College English. When searching JSTOR, be sure to select a specific journal or journal subject area to search in (such as language and literature). All full text.

  • Project Muse~Project MUSE is an online library of nearly 200 journals from Johns Hopkins University Press, with the full text of articles from 1996 to the present. Journals in this collection cover primarily the humanities and the social sciences. Includes the journals Discourse and Philosophy and Rhetoric. All full text. (Available on-campus only)

  • ProQuest Education Complete~ Contains more than 550 titles on education--including primary, secondary, and university-level topics--with nearly 300 in full text. Includes the journal Composition Studies. All full text.

     

    General Databases

  • Academic Search Elite ~ Selected full text of journals in the social sciences, humanities, general science, multicultural studies, and others. An excellent general resource with the option to limit results to scholarly articles. Full text available.

  • Wilson Select Plus ~Covers the social sciences, humanities, business, general science, as well as current issues. Full text available.

  • Oxford English Dictionary ~ The historical dictionary of the English language. Use this online resource to examine the origins, meaning, and evolution of key words.

  • Do we carry the journal's full-text articles in another database? Try Full Text Periodicals Available Online ~ search for the journal/magazine title, e.g. Renaissance Quarterly.
    Check Illinet Online for the journal/magazine title (not the article title) in print form, e.g. Studies in English Literature.
