Accessing Library Resources from Off-Campus

The following are selected resources available in the library and on the Internet.

 Locating Articles in Library Resources

• Use Illinet Online to determine if the library owns the journal in print or microfilm, and check Journals and Magazines Available Online for electronic access to journals.

• Inter-Library Loan ~ You can request a copy of an article provided that it is unavaible at the library.

Locating Books in the A.C. Buehler Library

• Use Illinet Online to find books held in the Elmhurst College library as well as books owned by 44 other Illinois academic libraries.
  
  
• An Any word, Anywhere search offers a good way to start looking for books in Illinet Online. Use the main words describing your topic. Don't forget to use quotes around a multiple word term.
  
  
• A more precise way of searching is to use a Browse Subject search. A Browse Subject search uses controlled vocabulary or Library of Congress Subject Headings (or LC subject headings). Unlike keywords, you can't simply make these up: you have to find out what the exact terms are and enter them in Illinet as a subject heading search. Some examples of established subject headings are:
  
  
           Psychology, experimental
           Human experimentation in psychology
           Psychology--research
           Children--research
  
  
• Use an advanced query to combine two subject terms or concepts into one search.
  
  
• Inter-Library Loan ~ Illinet Online allows you to request books held by 44 academic libraries in Illinois.
