Please keep in mind that online versions of magazines and newspapers may not contain all of the articles in a particular issues, or allow you full access to the entirety of an article.

So you found an article in one of our databases, but it's not full-text. Now what?

Background Information

  • Reference books such as encyclopedias can provide you with good solid information on a topic as well as lengthy bibliographies

    • xreferplus - Allows you to access over 150 different reference works full-text online.

    • Gale Virtual Reference Library - over 30 reference works, including the Encyclopedia of Sociology, are available.

Finding Journal Articles

    • Academic Search Premier - A general database that contains both scholarly and popular journal sources, many in full text. Be sure to evaluate the sources in these databases before using them.

    • JSTOR - An online library which does not include current issues of journals, but is an electronic archives of titles, often going back to the first issue of a journal's existence.

    • Periodical Abstracts - A general database that contains both scholarly and popular journal sources, many in full text. Be sure to evaluate the sources in these databases before using them.

    • Project MUSE - An online library of journals from university presses, with the full text of articles from 1996 to the present.

    • ProQuest Psychology Journals - Nearly 300 academic journals in psychology and related fields, all in full text. 

    • Sociological Abstracts (1962-present) - A print reference source containing citations from sociology journals. It is shelved alphabetically in the Bound Periodicals section of the library, on the lower level.

  • Check the list of General Resources on the Multicultural Resources page for reference books that may be helpful
  • Please check the I-Share Online Catalog for books on specific groups, or on multiculturalism in general.
  • Use subject headings to focus your search; select "Browse Subject" and type in a subject
