Library Sources for Research
If you are accessing this page from off campus, the links to most library databases will not work. To use these resources, go to the Library Web Page, where you can connect to Articles and Databases, Reference Sources, and Electronic Journals and Newspapers after providing your Elmhurst College login and password.
Articles and Databases
The three databases below all include coverage of several social work journals, in addition to covering other topics in social sciences. You will have the best results if you search in more than one of the databases on your topic. Each database also contains several social work journals in full text. Consult the "Full Text Periodicals Available Online" list at the library to determine which titles are covered.
The library subscribes to several social work journals. Use Illinet Online to locate journal titles owned by the library. Articles not available full text or in the library may be ordered through interlibrary loan. Forms are available at the Circulation Desk, or use this online form.
Internet Sources for Research
The Social Worker's Internet Handbook (library call number 025.063 G678s) is a book on Internet uses for social workers. It includes Web sites, email distribution lists, and discussion of legal and ethical issues relating to Internet use in social work.
Web Sites of Interest to Social Workers is a listing of many of the sites included in the Social Worker's Internet Handbook. This list was created by the publishers of The New Social Worker, a magazine for social work students.
A Guide to Internet Resources in Social Work is a listing of the sites available from the book Quick Guide to the Internet for Social Work. This site does a good job of arranging the list by areas of practice, and each site is briefly described.
Gateways to Social Work/Welfare on the Net - an article written by an academic librarian at the University of Illinois. This article is full of links to general guides, social work libraries, organizations and bibliographies.
