Finding Information in A.C. Buehler Library Resources

Electronic Resources: Databases, Journals, News Sources

Some of the databases below contain both popular and research information. Be sure to evaluate the sources in these databases before using them.

JSTOR

An electronic archives of titles, often going back to the first issue of a journal's existence.
JSTOR does not include current issues of journals.
Journal issues available are all full text.
Articles are available from Social Forces (to 2001), American Journal of Sociology (to 2000), Annual Review of Sociology (to 1999), and American Sociological Review (to 2002).
Current articles from these jounals can be found in other databases.

SocINDEX

SocINDEX contains more than 1,300,000 records as well as abstracts for over 2500 journals.
Contains conference papers, books and monographs.
Topics covered include urban studies and anthropology, criminology and criminal justice, ethnic and racial studies, marriage and family, social psychology, and sociological theory.

Annual Review of Sociology

Patrons can link to the index of this respected source of sociology research for free.
The library does not subscribe to this resource in full-text.
However, full text articles from this resource can be found in a number of online databases, such as Academic Search Premier , Wilson Select Plus, ProQuest Psychology, JSTOR, and Periodical Abstracts.

ProQuest Education Journals and ProQuest Psychology Journals

Sibling databases focusing on scholarly education and psychology resources, respectively.
Each boast nearly 300 full text journals, include sociology periodicals.
Current articles from American Journal of Sociology and Social Forces are available through both databases.
In addition, ProQuest Psychology has current articles from American Sociological Review and Annual Review of Sociology

Academic Search Premier

A general database that contains both scholarly and popular journal sources.
Many articles are available in full text.
Full text current articles from such sociological journals as Social Forces, Annual Review of Sociology, and American Journal of Sociology are available

Newspapers

Sociological Abstracts (1962-present) 361 S678s (on the lower level with the Index Collection)

The key print index for sociology.
Contains citations from journals in sociology and related disciplines.
Shelved alphabetically behind the Bound Periodicals section of the library (downstairs).

Does the Library Own This Article?

Once you have found an article citation, you can use I-Share Online to determine if the library owns the journal in print or microfilm
If you have the article citation (from Sociological Abstracts, for example) you can use CitationLinker to see if the Library has access to the full text of the article online or the journal itself.
If the first database you look in doesn't have the article available as full text, use the button or the button to find the full text in other databases.
