Course Statistics Including Attendance
If you want to document student
attendance in a Blackboard course, follow
these steps:
1. Log onto Blackboard at
http://bb.elmhurst.edu.
2. Under Courses you are
teaching, click the link of the desired
course.
3. Click the "Control
Panel" button (the bottom-most button
located to the left of the screen).
4. Click the Control Panel
and then the "Course Statistics"
link.
5. The "Course Statistics" page
will appear:
6. Blackboard lists course statistics from
the time the course was created. To obtain
the course statistics, you must choose a
particular range of dates. If you choose
a range from January 7, for example, when
students are added to your course, until
January 15, and click "Submit,"
you will see a new "Course Statistics"
page. Scroll down to No. 2, Access/Date
until you see a table that you can then
paste into a text box in the Course Information
section of your course. Note that in the
image below the "Course Statistics"
page has been compressed to display only
the information that you need and not the
graphics displayed in No. 1 and at the top
of No. 2. You will scroll below to see the
course statistics with student names and
dates of attendance.
*Prior to checking the course statistics,
go to your course course and create a folder
titled "Attendance Record" in
the Course Information section. Then inside
the folder add an item and title it Jan
7-14 attendance. Note that the "Course
Statistics" page usually displays one
day earlier than the last date that you
requested, depending upon the time of day
that you obtain the statistics.
Then in the course Course
Statistics page, obtain the course statistics
table as described above, drag your mouse
across and down in the course statistics
table and right click on the selected text
and click "copy." Note: you must
be using the Blackboard Text Editor available
in Blackboard 6. If you have turned it off,
be sure to turn it back on in the "Personal
Information" link in the "Tools"
area of your course.
Then scroll to the top of the screen and
click the link to the "Control Panel"
and return to the "Course Information"
section and enter the "attendance record"
folder. At this point, either create the
new item or enter the item you have already
created within the folder, click the "paste"
icon in the text box, and then click "submit."
Do this each week throughout the course
to create a series of attendance"tables."
