Enrolling Students and Other Users in Your Blackboard Courses
Students cannot enroll themselves; it is the responsibility of the instructor to ensure that the students are enrolled. Keep in mind that students may be enrolled in more than one class using Blackboard. The steps below will show you how to enroll students and other instructors in your class.
- Log onto Blackboard at http://bb.elmhurst.edu.
- Under "Courses you are teaching," click
the link of the desired course.
- Click the "Control Panel" button (the
bottom-most button located to the left of the screen).
- Under User Management, click "Enroll
User."
- Search the Elmhurst College Blackboard system for
the desired user by either:
i. Typing the user's last name.ii. Clicking the "Search" button.
OR
i. Click the "List All" tab.ii. Click the "List All" button.
Clicking "List All" will list all users not currently enrolled in your class; this list will contain the names of all users currently enrolled in Blackboard at Elmhurst College; therefore, "List All" is not recommended.
- Find the listed user, and click the "Add"
box located to the left of the user's name.
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the
"Submit" button.
If you have listed all users, you will not be able to select users on more than one page at a time. You must click "Submit" and redo the above steps for subsequent pages.
- You should then receive a Success receipt.
- Click the "OK" button.
If a user does not already exist in the Blackboard system, or if there is more than one username listed for the same person call the Computer Lab at 617-3543.
The above procedure can be used to enroll colleagues who may be team-teaching with you or who are simply interested in our course page. However, the procedure defaults to enrolling users as students. To change the role of a user in your course, do the following:
- Click the "Control Panel" button on the
left side of the screen.
- Under User Management, click List/Modify User.
- Search your course for the correct person by typing
the user's last name.
- Click the "Search" button.
- Click the "Properties" button located to
the right of the user's name.
- Scroll down to the area labeled Role and Availability.
- Click the radio button next to the role you wish
to assign to the user.
- Keep the "Available" option as "Yes."
- Click the "Submit" button.
