African-American History Month

Join over a million readers
in the 16th Annual National African-American Read-In
on Wednesday, February 16th, 2005, from 3:30-4:30pm,
in the Reading Area of the A.C. Buehler Library.

Established in 1926 by noted scholar and author, Dr. Carter G Woodson, African-American History month is celebrated every February. Dr. Woodson chose February because it contains the birthdays of both Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. It is a time to learn more about African-American history and culture in the United States, to discover African-American achievements and contributions to American society and to promote greater understanding about African-Americans in our nation and our communities.

In that spirit, the librarians at Elmhurst College have assembled a collection of books about and written by African-Americans and supplemented it with a collection of web sites. Please stop by the library in the month of February to view the African-American History Month display.
