User_html Directory Setup

If you need assistance with setting up this directory, call the library at 630-617-3173 to set up an appointment. Once this directory is set up, you don't need to do anything else to it...ever.

(Staff should continue to call the Help Desk (x3767) for assistance. On-campus students should call x5678. Off-campus students should call (630) 617-3543 or (630) 617-3793.)

1. Open your web browswer, type in the URL telnet://elmhurst.edu and press Enter.
2. Login to your account by typing your username and pressing Enter.
3. Type your password and press Enter.
4. Press any key to continue and press Enter.
5. After you logged in, type 91 and press Enter to exit to the UNIX system prompt ($).
6. Type mkdir user_html and then press the Enter button.
7. Type chmod 755 user_html and then press the Enter button.
8. Type cd .. and then press the Enter button (there is a space between cd and ..).
9. Type chmod 755 username (replace username with your login id) and then press the Enter button.
10. Type exit to log out of UNIX.
11. Type 99 to exit telnet.

You're finished. You can now start uploading web pages to this directory.
