Circulation Policy for Faculty and Staff

  • Faculty/staff can check out media items for up to 2 weeks.  Instructors need to clear loan extensions with Library Media Services.

Placing a Media Item on Reserve

  • Fill out a library “Reserve List” form and submit it to Library Media Services.  You can find forms at the Circulation Desk or download it here.
  • Please remember it normally takes up to three business days to process your request.
  • You have the option of putting personal items on reserve.   Please do not place highly valuable items on reserve unless absolutely necessary, as the library does not accept responsibility for the items’ safe-keeping.

Reserving Videos for Checkout During the Semester

  • You have the option of reserving a video for checkout in advance to ensure that it will be available for a specific date.  We recommend that instructors, especially those of you who use our services regularly, submit requests as early as possible.
  • Note: we will accept your class syllabus as a media request form.

Media Rentals

  • Library Media Services will locate and arrange rental or borrowing services with other institutions.  Your department will be billed any rental fee incurred.  Download form here, email, or call Library Media Services at 630-617-3259.

Purchase Requests

  • If you would like to Elmhurst College Library to consider purchasing media materials, please submit your request to Library Media Services.  We can assist faculty and staff with media purchase requests.
    • Download form here or submit any relevant advertisements or reviews.
    • Please indicate if the request is time-sensitive.
    • Please help those making purchasing decisions by writing a brief statement as to why you think the item would be an asset to the collection and whether or not you plan to use it in class.

Previewing Policy

  • Library Media Services can arrange previews for most video materials.  As per our agreement with the distributor, you must return the preview item(s) by the date indicated, in the same condition as you received them -- MINT CONDITION!  The individual or department requesting the preview item is responsible for it until it has been purchased.

Art Slides

  • The slides are located in Room 108, organized in file drawers.  There is a light table and a couple of magnifying glasses to view slides.  At this time, we are allowing the Art Department faculty the ability to self-check-out.  Students are not yet allowed access to the slide collection, unless he or she has express permission from a faculty member.

A/V  Room Reservations

  • Faculty and staff can reserve any second-floor Library Media room through Library Media Services. Call or e-mail us with your contact information, the date and time of your class or meeting, how many people will be attending, and what sort of A/V equipment you may need, if any. We have an assortment of video players, a group listening station, an overhead projector, and an LCD projector available for use in our Library Media rooms.
