Frank Babbitt Joins Elmhurst Faculty

Violist Frank Babbitt will join the music faculty at Elmhurst College in the fall of 2012, serving as instructor of viola.

A violist with the Lyric Opera Orchestra, Babbitt has performed with the Chicago Symphony, the Grant Park Orchestra, Music of the Baroque and many other performing ensembles in the Chicago area.

As a chamber musician, Babbitt has made guest appearances with members of the Vermeer Quartet and the Orion Ensemble. In 2001 he gave the world premiere performance of Ralph Shapey's "Night Music II" for violin, viola and tape, a performance the Chicago Tribune called "a tour de force of dexterity and timing."

Also a trained singer, Babbitt has been a member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus. He made his Grand Teton Music Festival debut in a performance of Samuel Barber's "Dover Beach."

Babbitt has served on the faculties of Lawrence University, SUNY Stony Brook, Northwestern University and the Merit School of Music. He holds a master’s degree in performance from SUNY Stony Brook and a B.A. in theatre and music from Lawrence University.
