Transnational LGBT Activism: Working for Sexual Rights Worldwide

Ryan Thoreson’s work focuses on transnational advocacy around LGBT rights, LGBT youth issues in the U.S. and internationally, and the balance of religious liberty and sexual rights.

Thoreson, the Yale Law School Robert L. Bernstein International Human Rights Fellow at Human Rights Watch, will present Transnational LGBT Activism: Working for Sexual Rights Worldwide on Wednesday, October 11, at Elmhurst College. He is this year’s William R. Johnson Intercultural Lecturer.

Before joining Human Rights Watch, Thoreson clerked for the Hon. Scott M. Matheson Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and was a research fellow at OutRight Action International. He is the author of Transnational LGBT Activism: Working for Sexual Rights Worldwide (University of Minnesota Press, 2014), and teaches about sexuality, law and politics as an adjunct assistant professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Thoreson’s talk will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, in the Founders Lounge. Admission is $10 for the general public and free for Elmhurst College students, faculty, staff and alumni. Tickets are available. For more information, call (630) 617-5186.
