Results from various studies conducted in 2013 have shown that more than 77 percent of U.S. college students have consumed alcohol in the past year, 40 percent engage in binge drinking and 33 percent reported using marijuana at least once a year. Consequently, one statistic becomes startlingly clear—alcohol- and drug-related incidents involving death, self-injury, driving while impaired, sexual assault, physical assault and academic consequences affect 100 percent of students, whether they drink, use drugs or abstain from both.
The Alcohol and Other Drug Committee at Elmhurst College is committed to educating its students on the dangers of alcohol and drug use while simultaneously offering students resources and information to make informed decisions. With an overarching goal of preventing and reducing the use of alcohol and drugs among Elmhurst students, the AOD Committee offers educational programming to students that will assist them in assessing their own alcohol and drug use, counseling services and referrals to off-campus addiction specialists and providing information on national alcohol and drug rates as well as issues related to substance abuse on college campuses.
