Dr. Mixon teaches courses in urban studies, American government, state and local government, urban politics, public administration and public policy. She has received the American Political Science Association's Phi Sigma Alpha Teaching Award, and 2001 was named Illinois Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching. Mixon frequently provides political analysis and commentary for Chicago media outlets including the Chicago Sun-Times, WGN, NBC and WYCC. Her book, Twenty-First Century Chicago, examines the social, economic, political and governmental challenges facing Chicagoland.
