Exams: There will be three in-class exams and a cumulative final exam. Calculators will not be permitted on exams.
Exam Forgiveness Policy: All exams must be taken in class on the announced dates. If you take all three regular exams as scheduled, then the lowest one of the three scores will be replaced by your percentage score on the final exam, if this is to your benefit.
You will not be allowed to take any exam early or late for any reason. If you miss any one of the three regular exams for any reason, your percentage score on the final exam will serve as your score for the missed exam, and only the missed one will be replaced.
Quizzes: Beginning September 4th, there will be a quiz every Tuesday unless there is an exam that week. Your lowest two quiz grades will be dropped at the end of the semester. If you miss a quiz for any reason, that is one of the grades that will be dropped. No makeup quizzes will be permitted. Calculators will not be permitted on quizzes.
Homework: Homework assignments will be given each night. I will not collect the homework problems, although I reserve the right to do so if necessary.
Projects: Along with each night's homework assignment you will be required to complete a project. This project will consist of either (a) your own original problem on the material or (b) an activity you might use in your classroom to teach the material. If you write your own problem, you must also include the solution. If you make up an activity, you must state the goals of the activity, any required materials, and the intended grade level. In either case, the project must be legible, clearly explained, neat, relevant to the material, and on a separate piece of paper. You will hand the project in each day at the beginning of class. Your project grade will consist of the percentage of these that you satisfactorily complete. (Note: Unless I let you know otherwise, you may assume that what you have handed in is satisfactory.)
Remember: In this course, the bulk of the grade is comprised of your performance on in-class quizzes and exams. This means that doing the homework is absolutely required if you want to pass. "Doing homework" means correctly completing the assignment, often with the help of the instructor, tutors, study groups, etc. It does not mean looking over the problems and assuming that you could do them correctly if you wanted to.
