Exams: There will be two in-class exams and a cumulative final exam. Calculators/computers will not be permitted on exams unless you are specifically instructed otherwise.
Exam Forgiveness Policy: All exams must be taken in class on the announced dates. If you take both regular exams as scheduled, then the lowest one of the three scores will be replaced by your percentage score on the final exam, if this is to your benefit.
You will not be allowed to take any exam early or late for any reason (even a really, really good reason). If you miss any of the two regular exams for any reason, your percentage score on the final exam will serve as your score for the missed exam(s), and only the missed one(s) will be replaced.
Quizzes: There will be 5 quizzes throughout the semester. Your lowest quiz grade will be dropped at the end of the semester. If you miss a quiz, for any reason (even a really, really good reason) that is one of the grades that will be dropped. No makeup quizzes will be permitted. Calculators/computers will not be permitted on quizzes unless you are specifically instructed otherwise.
Homework: Homework assignments will be given each night. Some assignments will be collected. Any collected homework assignment grades will be included in the quiz grade. For homework problems, you are welcome to use whatever technology you feel comfortable with (calculator, computer, slide rule, etc.) and are strongly encouraged to work with other students, come to homework help hours, and visit the math tutors. In this course, doing all of the homework is absolutely required if you want a C or higher. "Doing homework" means correctly completing the assignment, often with the help of the instructor, tutors, study groups, etc. It does not mean looking over the problems and assuming that you could do them correctly if you wanted to.
Class Participation: Your class participation grade will be determined by how much you personally contribute to the classroom learning environment.
