BENITEZ BROWN EARNS CCIW PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
ELMHURST, Ill., September 15, 2004 -- Elmhurst
College defensive back, Benitez Brown (Sparta-H.S.) has been selected
as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's (CCIW) "Defensive
Player of the Week" in the second week of the football season. Brown
received the award for his play in Elmhurst's 46-14 win over Concordia
University on Saturday (September 11).
Brown covered the entire field, recording 12 tackles,
including nine solo tackles in the contest. He also broke up a pass
play.
Brown, a four-year starter for the Bluejays, earned
first-team All-CCIW honors in 2003. He was also tabbed as the CCIW
"Defensive Player of the Week," in the Bluejays' win over North Park
where Brown scored a pair of defensive touchdowns.
A graduate of Sparta High School, Brown was a two-time
all-conference selection in football who earned team MVP honors during
his senior year.
He is the son of Bernard and Lisa Brown of Sparta.
The Bluejay football team is off to a 2-0 start to
the 2004 season after posting a 6-4 mark in 2003. Elmhurst will host
the University of Chicago on Saturday, September 18.
