ELMHURST COLLEGE ANNOUNCES COMMUNITY DAY ON SEPTEMBER 4
Beck and Urick to be Honored as Part of Football Festivities

ELMHURST, Ill., August 25, 2004 -- Saturday, September 4, marks the annual Community Day at Elmhurst College, and this year will feature a full day of events. All Elmhurst residents and their guests may enjoy free admission to four different sporting events. These include the season-opening football game, and the first home match ever for the Bluejays' new men's soccer team.

The four-time defending College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) championship volleyball team and the women's soccer team will also be in action on Saturday.

The day begins at 9:00 a.m. with the volleyball team hosting the second day of the Elmhurst College Volleyball Invitational. The Bluejay volleyball squad will host Illinois Wesleyan University at 9:00 a.m. and are scheduled to play UW-Oshkosh at 1:00 p.m.

The football team is up next on the schedule, as they play host to Benedictine University at 1:00 p.m.

Two special ceremonies are scheduled to take place at the football game. Prior to kickoff, former Bluejay head coach Tom Beck will be congratulated on his recent enshrinement in the National College Football Hall of Fame. Bernie Kish, executive director of the College Football Hall of Fame, will be on hand to present Beck with a commemorative plaque.

At halftime, the annual Bluejay Backer Community Service Award will be presented to the city's cable TV coordinator, Genie Urick; the first woman ever to receive this honor.

After the football game, the women's soccer team and new Head Coach Paul Webster will make their home debut at 4:30 p.m. as the Bluejays host Coe College.

The day concludes with the brand new men's soccer team playing their first home game at 6:15 p.m. The team, which is in its first year of NCAA competition, hosts Webster University.
