TRACK TEAMS COMPETE AT UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-WHITEWATER INVITATIONAL

- April 16, 2001 - The men's track and field team finished fifth while the women's team finished 11th at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational last Friday (April 13). Freshman Adrien Henry (Chicago-Steinmetz) placed in the top six in three events, while freshman John McMillian (Miami, Fla.-South Miami) placed in both the 100 and 200 meters.
      Henry won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.55, placed second in the triple jump, going 41'3", and was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 60.10.
      McMillian won the 100-meter dash in 10.90, and placed fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.67. Senior Nelson Grant (Homewood--Homewood-Flossmoor) placed second in the high jump, clearing 6'5".
      On the women's side, freshman twins Kathleen and Erin Brice (Elk Grove-H.S.) placed second and third, respectively, in the 1,500 meters in 4:45.72 and 4:50.02. "The Brices continue to run great," Head Women's Coach Erik Guta said. "Both of them ran lifetime personal records."
      In addition, sophomore Darlene Florence (Glendale Heights-Glenbard North) placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 116'6". "This was a lifetime personal record for Darlene," Guta said. "She is improving every week."
      The Bluejay track and field team will host the Elmhurst Intercollegiate Invitational (EII) beginning at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday (April 21) on Langhorst Field. The event was started in 1933. Last year, the Bluejay men won the EII team championship while the women finished second.
