SOFTBALL TEAM DROPS A PAIR ON SPRING TRIP

ELMHURST, ILL., March 22, 2004--The Elmhurst College softball team dropped to 2-4 on the season after falling in consecutive games at the Sun West Spring Tournament. The Bluejays were hammed 18-4 by Tufts University and dropped a 3-0 contest to Eastern Connecticut.

TUFTS 18, ELMHURST 4 - The Bluejays fell behind early as Tufts roared out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning. Tufts would tack on runs in every frame of the five-inning contest, pounding out 22 total hits.

Danielle White (Bolingbrook-Naperville Central) was tagged for six earned runs on nine hits in two innings of work, taking the loss. Jessica Kalal (Lisle-H.S.) didn't fare much better, surrendering seven earned runs on 13 hits in three innings of work.

Jennifer Cromer (Carol Stream-Glenbard North) finished 3-for-3 at the plate while scoring two runs and driving in a run. Kalal added a single and a double in the loss.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT 3, ELMHURST 0 - The Bluejays were shut out for the first time this season, falling to Eastern Connecticut 3-0.

Katie Gervase (Glen Ellyn-Glenbard West) suffered the loss while allowing just two runs on six hits over five innings of work. She also struck out two batters while not issuing a walk.

Elmhurst managed just four hits in the game, two coming from Cromer.
